I used to watch "Alice" when I was a kid and as much as I love this compilation of some of the series' best episodes, I can't believe Warner Bros. hasn't bothered to release even one full season of what was one of the best and longest running sitcoms on television - running on CBS for 9 seasons.
"Alice" was a very funny sitcom starring Linda Lavin as widow and aspiring singer, Alice Hyatt who, along with her son Tommy (Philip McKeon) leave their New Jersey home after the death of her husband, traveling to Los Angeles in search of a singing career. Their station wagon breaks down in Phoenix, Arizona and since they are now broke, she takes a job as a waitress in Mel's Diner which is owned by Mel Sharples (the late Vic Taybeck). Fellow waitresses Vera Louise Gorman (Beth Howland) and the hilarious Florence Jean Castleberry (the fabulous Polly Holliday) become Alice's best friends and co-workers. This was a very talented cast and the show itself was funny, down-to-earth and Flo's famous quip "Kiss my grits!" became one of the most popular catch phrases of the late 70's.
Since most of the sitcoms which appeared during the same time period like "All in the Family", "The Jeffersons", "Maude", "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "Sanford and Son", "One Day at a Time", "Barney Miller", "Happy Days" and "Laverne and Shirley" have already had multiple seasons released on DVD, it's high time that Warner Brothers gives the fans what they want - Season 1 of "Alice"!

I liked 5 of the six episodes on this disc. Wasn't to thrilled with the episode beating you over the head about how gays can be athletes and do not like little boys etc.
Anyway, would like to see this show make it to seasons on dvd. Thought half of the episodes were really funny on this disc.
Anyway Alice is also on a few of the Barney Miller's I have. She is really spazzy on those a big change from her character on Alice. I have the three seasons of Barney Miller out on dvd and she is on at least 3 of them.

Alice has a terrific cast and funny shows. This DVD is great. The entire series should be on DVD. I highly recommend this collection of some of the best of Alice. It's worth getting just for the episode "Close Encounters of the Worst Kind." I remember loving that episode when it was first aired on CBS and was so glad to find it on this DVD. Get Alice before the DVD is hard to find. You won't be sorry.

This is a great series and should be released in season sets. How could a show that won eight golden globe awards be overlooked. You guys need to wake up and get with it. Mork and mindy and little house on the prarie are good enough but this show's not. Those two shows just to name a few suck but they have been released. Put this series out. It's one of the best shows of that time.
