Chicago Filmmakers  (Map it)
5243 N Clark
Chicago, IL 60640

Organization: Chicago Filmmakers

These shorts ask the age-old question of which came first: the filmmaker or the film? When the behind-the-scenes visionary becomes the subject and vice versa, the result is a reflective push in the medium, both in front of and behind the camera. Admission: $10.00 ($8.00 members), tickets available online: http://reelingfilmfestival.tix.com

* I’m Sorry, Sterling (Jared Mitchell & RM Vaughan, Canada, 2009): A remix/mash-up of Hollywood film noir classics—starring legendary hunk actor Sterling Hayden and filmmaker, RM Vaughn.
* On the way to the videostore… (Ryan Halun, Canada, 2009): After running into his favorite porn star on the way to the video store, Charles, a young bear, decides he will do anything to make first contact.
* Projecting the Body (Walter McIntosh, Australia, 2008): An intimate look at Stephen Cummins’ life and career, bringing together his film and photographic work, rare home movies and snapshots, as well as interviews.
* Delphinium: A Childhood Portrait of Derek Jarman (Matthew Mishory, USA/UK, 2009): A stylized and lyrical coming-of-age portrait of Derek Jarman’s artistic, sexual, and political awakening in post-war England.
* Toward the Blue (Randy Caspersen, USA, 2009): A personal documentary about dreams, gay erotica and leaving Los Angeles.

About Reeling:

Reeling 2009, the second-oldest LGBT film festival in the world, will run November 5th through the 15th, showcasing innovative gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender films from around the globe. Reeling will take place at Landmark’s Century Centre Cinema (2828 N. Clark St.), Film Row Cinema (Columbia College, 1104 S. Wabash Ave.), Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport Ave.), and the Festival’s home base at Chicago Filmmakers (5243 N. Clark St.).

As always, Reeling continues to push boundaries and keep the festival’s programming fresh and culturally rich by presenting work from worldwide perspectives and in genres ranging from light-hearted comedy to introspective experimental. Our mission is to recognize the important artistic and socially relevant contributions LGBT filmmakers have made to our culture and to counteract stereotyping with valid, meaningful, and diverse portrayals of LGBT people.
